Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev met with the UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan Louise Chamberlain. Press service of the Parliament reported.
The parties discussed planned projects and results of the joint work done within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme.
Nurlanbek Shakiev stressed that the UN Development Programme is a permanent partner of Kyrgyzstan. «Cooperation began from the first years of the country’s independence. The assistance and support of UNDP in the implementation of joint projects is of great importance,» he said, thanking for the assistance provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaker also dwelled on the priority areas of partnership. «To date, work is underway to implement the National Development Program of Kyrgyzstan until 2026. Our republic is interested in cooperation with the UNDP, aims to implement joint projects in the areas of environmental protection, introduction of environmentally friendly technologies and promotion of green economy,» he said.
Nurlanbek Shakiev recalled that on December 14, 2022, at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, 2023-2027 were declared the «Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Region». «In this regard, Kyrgyzstan has developed a draft roadmap. Our main task is to work within the framework of this map,» he said.
The Speaker of Parliament appreciated the work of Louise Chamberlain in the position of UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan and presented her with a Certificate of Merit from the Parliament.
Louise Chamberlain told about the activities of the UNDP. «The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan plays an important role in the implementation of joint projects. Our cooperation in all areas will continue in the future, in particular, we need to work within the framework of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals,» she said, also noting the issues in the areas of ecology, green economy and digitalization.
