The United Nations Refugee Agency opened an art exhibition «Hope Away from Home». It was organized in collaboration with the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts to promote the inclusion and integration of refugees and in recognition of the hospitality of host communities. The exhibition will last from June 22 to July 7.

The exhibition explores the theme of hope through the experience of displaced people, offering visitors a multifaceted view of the challenges refugees face and the importance of strengthening the sense of belonging in their new home. The exhibition, made up of art objects of different formats, is a multi-layered approach illustrating the global refugee crisis, the integration of refugees in Kyrgyzstan and reflection of the theme of displacement in the country in the context of historical events.

«Inclusion of refugees in the communities, in which they have found safety, is the most effective way to enable them to rebuild their lives and contribute to the local economy and their host states,» the UN Resident Coordinator Antje Grawe said.

At least 253 refugees live in the republic. As a member of the UN Country Team in Kyrgyzstan, UNHCR works with government agencies, civil society and the private sector to promote refugees’ access to basic rights, services and inclusion.

"We can all make an effort to give refugees more hope and opportunity. Let’s do our best to ensure the inclusion of refugees in education, employment, healthcare, and so on for the benefit of everyone — refugees and host communities,"Ivan Saleyeu, head of the UNHCR National Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, said.

The World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to pay tribute to refugees around the world. It is marked annually on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to leave their homes to escape conflict or persecution.
