Number of measles and rubella cases continues to increase in Kyrgyzstan. Press center of the Ministry of Health reported with reference to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.

Since the beginning of the year, 286 cases of measles and 10 cases of rubella have been detected. Most of the cases were registered in Osh region (151) and Osh city (71). Ten cases were registered in Bishkek, 11 — in Jalal-Abad region, 25 — in Batken region, 10 — in Talas region, and 8 — in Chui region.

The main reason for the increase in the incidence is a decrease in the coverage of children and adults with routine immunization against measles and rubella. Most of the patients refused preventive vaccination.

Mostly children under 12 months and children who missed vaccinations against measles and rubella get infected. Children get these vaccines at 12 months and 6 years according to the Preventive Vaccinations Calendar of the Kyrgyz Republic.
