UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Antje Grawe commented on the decision of the deputies on the early resignation of the Ombudswoman Atyr Abdrakhmatova.

She stressed that independent human rights institutions are key partners of the UN in Kyrgyzstan.

«Their unhindered work is essential for the protection and promotion of human rights and for sustainable development that leaves no one behind,» Antje Grawe posted on Twitter.

On April 19, the deputies interrupted the report of the ombudswoman on the state of human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan. She was not allowed to finish, she was not asked questions. Instead of discussing the report, the Parliament decided to return to the topic of the early resignation of Atyr Abdrakhmatova in a week.

The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch appealed to the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. The statement says that the Parliament should not dismiss the country’s human rights Ombudswoman Atyr Abdrakhmatova before she completes her five-year term and should refrain from interfering with her work.
