Yekaterinburg lacks labor migrants. The head of the city Alexey Orlov announced at a meeting with journalists within the framework of the first Eurasian Media Forum.
«I can’t give exact figures, the migration service is engaged in this. But the fact is that we do not have enough labor migrants,» he said.
According to him, almost 1.6 million square meters of housing and about 800,000 square meters of commercial real estate were commissioned in the city last year. Labor migrants took an active part in construction projects. The official also noted that more than 20 diplomatic missions are represented in Yekaterinburg. The city administration has good relations with them.
The parties are working to solve, among other things, the problems of labor migrants — support in registration, obtaining the necessary documents, assistance in finding a job.
The head of Yekaterinburg also noted that everything is regulated by migration legislation. The capacity of the municipality is limited.
«The unemployment rate in Yekaterinburg is at a historically low level of less than 4 percent. The people are all employed. But as for the construction complex, there is a colossal shortage of workers. We have many sites, including in the field of road works. A large-scale project is being implemented to build a high-speed highway from Moscow through Kazan to Yekaterinburg. There is also an acute shortage of workers,» he concluded.
