The project «Promoting Sustainable Development of Beef Cattle Breeding Sector» started working in Kyrgyzstan, within the framework of which field schools will be opened for farmers of the republic. The UN FAO Office in the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

«The dynamics of livestock in recent years tends to systematically increase. According to the National Statistical Committee, at the end of 2021, there were 6,278 million sheep and goats, 1,750 million heads of cattle and 547,000 horses in the livestock sector of Kyrgyzstan. There is an acute shortage of experienced and trained personnel and farmers, and there are a number of problems with the introduction of modern technologies. All this is a serious obstacle to development. For this reason, this project was developed at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture. It is aimed at developing the potential of farmers and promoting the best global practices in the management of beef cattle breeding and covers issues such as feeding, health and maintenance of animals,» the statement says.

The main goal of the project is to provide technical assistance and training of livestock breeders, including women farmers and youth. For these purposes, field schools will be organized — weekly meetings of a group of 20-25 farmers who will be trained under the guidance of a special trainer. School graduates will gain the skills needed to improve production efficiency.
