EU may impose sanctions on Central Asian countries for re-export to Russia

The European Union is considering imposing sanctions on Central Asian countries for helping Russia bypass restrictive measures. Telegraph reported with reference to the document.

According to the media outlet, EU officials registered an increase in exports to Central Asian states of goods with dual-use technologies, such as washing machines and used cars. Brussels fears that these technologies will subsequently end up in Russia.

According to the presented plan, the EU intends to hold talks with the countries of Central Asia to warn them about the consequences of helping to circumvent sanctions.

The Telegraph also notes that if the EU finds evidence of re-exports to Russia, it could restrict the access of any states, businesses or individuals to its single market.
