Management of the State Directorate for Construction of the eco-friendly Asman city was transferred to the Presidential Executive Office. The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
It is noted that it is aimed at improving efficiency and accelerating the adoption of operational decisions for implementation of the pilot project «Eco-friendly Asman city» at the expense of extrabudgetary funds.
It was stated in 2021 that the capacity of Asman’s infrastructure would be designed for 500,000 permanent residents. Approximate terms of realization — from 7 to 10 years. The cost of the project is about $20 billion. At first it was planned to build it 15 kilometers from Balykchy, then a little further, and then it was even announced that it would be several towns. It was even reported that a French company would build it. But there has been no real progress so far.
As of today, it is only known that 3,143 hectares of land have been transformed for implementation of the project.
