Kazakhstan to install surveillance cameras in all prisons to fight torture

Kazakhstan has approved the rules for equipping and using video surveillance systems in prisons, pre-trial detention centers and office premises of the police, operational and investigative units of law enforcement agencies. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

Video surveillance systems will also cover the route of visitors and security rooms, with the exception of places for personal hygiene. A list of persons entitled to view video recordings in real time and take prompt measures to prevent violations will be formed.

The responsibility of the heads of bodies for maintaining good condition, material and technical support for the operation of video surveillance systems and the safety of the video archive is provided, the Prosecutor General’s Office added.
