Kyrgyzstan calls on the CIS countries to hold events aimed at supporting the Russian language in 2023. The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asein Isaev, said, presenting the concept of the country’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth to the participants of the meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member States.

«Our chairmanship coincided with the fact that this year was declared the Year of the Russian Language. As you know, the Russian language has official status in our country. We cherish this heritage, we try to increase it, to preserve it. We try to present our experience within the framework of our chairmanship. We believe that this is a common heritage, that this is what unites us, this is our priceless gift,» he said.

Activities to popularize the Russian language will include, in particular, the study of the work of the national writer of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aitmatov.

«This year will mark the 95th anniversary of the writer. This is not only our writer, this is the writer of all our countries. As you know, in recent years he had written both in Kyrgyz and in Russian,» said Asein Isaev.

2023 was declared in the CIS countries as the Year of the Russian language as the language of interethnic communication. This decision was made by the leaders of the member countries of the Commonwealth in December 2020. At the CIS summit held in mid-October last year, the Heads of State supported the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to create an international organization under the auspices of the Commonwealth to support and promote the Russian language and approved its concept.
