«The National Bank does not intervene to make money,» Aida Karabaeva, official representative of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, said at a press conference on Tuesday.
According to her, interventions are conducted to smooth out sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate.
At the same time, Aida Karabaeva noted that according to the results of 2022, the profit of the National Bank is preliminary estimated at 9 billion soms. The bank will name the exact amount after confirmation by the external auditor.
«As for interventions, last year we sold about $486 million on the market. There were also reverse interventions on the purchase of $190.7 million. This happened because the supply exceeded the demand. As a result, the net sale of foreign currency amounted to $295,760 million,» the official representative of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic added.
