Mass arrests: Pre-trial restraint for Orozaiym Narmatova changed

Orozaiym Narmatova, a former member of Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, suspected of organizing mass riots in order to seize power, was placed under house arrest. Nurayim Sydygalieva, the wife of the arrested activist Ali Shabdan, announced on Twitter.

According to her, pre-trial restriction for Orozaiym Narmatova was changed due to her state of health. She was transferred from the remand center 1 to a medical institution.

«Orozaiym was placed under house arrest due to her serious condition. She is in the hospital now,» Nuraim Sydygalieva wrote.

Earlier it was reported that Orozaiym Narmatova fainted in the courtroom when a petition to change the pre-trial restraint was being considered. Human rights activists have repeatedly stated that she needs urgent hospitalization. However, according to ambulance workers, Narmatova’s condition is satisfactory, and her blood pressure is normal.

The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.

Mass arrests began on October 23. Authorities placed 26 people in jail on charges of preparing for riots.

A number of international human rights organizations such as the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now and others issued a statement calling for the immediate release of politicians and activists arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
