Kyrgyzstanis and Uzbeks will be able to travel to each other with an ID card. This became possible after the Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Protocol on amendments and additions to the Agreement between the Governments of the two countries on mutual trips of citizens dated October 3, 2006.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan confirmed the information, but did not specify the date when the norm would come into force. «Citizens of the two countries will be able to cross the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border with ID cards after the domestic procedures necessary for the entry into force of this Protocol are carried out,» the Foreign Ministry said to 24.kg news agency.

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed to facilitate passport control when crossing the border. As Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibek Artykbaev said at a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Parliament in December, citizens of both countries will be able to cross the border by presenting an ID card, and citizens under 16 will be able to cross the border with an international passport.

As a result of the state visit of the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan, 24 documents were signed aimed at building up Kyrgyz-Uzbek joint cooperation, including the Protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the Treaty between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border, signed on November 3, 2022 in Bishkek, which finally completed the process of delimitation and demarcation of the border.
