The process of delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border has been completed. The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan exchanged instruments of ratification.
Following the talks, the heads of state signed a Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
«Today is a historic day for us. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan completed the process of border delimitation, exchanged instruments of ratification and an agreement on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. We have put an end to border issues. I am convinced that the final solution of the border issue will play a key role in the further development of fraternal relations, strengthening border contacts, stability and security in the Central Asian region,» Sadyr Japarov commented on the event.
In accordance with the agreement, a border line with a total length of 302.29 kilometers was determined, including 35 sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border. Uzbekistan also receives 4,957 hectares of the territory of Andijan reservoir and additional 19.5 hectares for the maintenance and protection of the dam. Kyrgyzstan receives 1,019 hectares of pasture land as compensation.
The Uzbek side undertakes to maintain the water level in the reservoir at a level not exceeding 900 meters, to ensure free access and use of resources by the Kyrgyz people (animal watering, irrigation, fishing), not to install engineering and technical structures around the reservoir, the press service specified.
The Kyrgyz side undertook to ensure the establishment of water protection zones and compliance with the water use regime.
The relevant laws were previously signed by the heads of the two countries.
