The agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border is historical. The head of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a meeting in Ala-Archa state residence.
He thanked the President Sadyr Japarov for his resolve on the border issue.
«I would like to thank my colleague separately for his personal support in the border issue. If it was not for his political will, we would not have achieved such results today. They would say: yes, we will do it, but tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. However, 30 years have passed since ‘tomorrow’, and we have not resolved these issues. So, I want to thank you again. Negotiations have been completed, a historic treaty has been concluded. Our fraternal peoples took this with great enthusiasm,» said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In accordance with the agreement, a border line with a total length of 302.29 kilometers was determined, including 35 sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border. Uzbekistan also receives 4,957 hectares of the territory of Andijan reservoir and additional 19.5 hectares for the maintenance and protection of the dam. Kyrgyzstan receives 1,019 hectares of pasture land as compensation.
The Uzbek side undertakes to maintain the water level in the reservoir at a level not exceeding 900 meters, to ensure free access and use of resources by the Kyrgyz people (animal watering, irrigation, fishing), not to install engineering and technical structures around the reservoir, the press service specified.
The Kyrgyz side undertook to ensure the establishment of water protection zones and compliance with the water use regime.
The relevant laws were previously signed by the heads of the two countries.
