Tariffs for drinking water need to be changed. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said during a republican meeting with the heads of regional state administrations and local government bodies. Press service of the Cabinet reported.
«The water in the water intakes located outside froze. Measures will be taken next year to solve this problem, including underground laying of pipes and installation of pumps. The tariff policy for drinking water requires changes in 2023. You are all aware of the situation in Mailuu-Suu. The municipality cannot cope with the maintenance of facilities, because the tariff is low, less than the cost,» the head of the Cabinet said.
He noted that it was necessary to promptly prepare methodological recommendations, regulations and legal documents for determining the tariff for drinking water. «A resident of Bishkek pays 5 soms 38 tyiyns per cubic meter of water, while its cost is 7 soms 70 tyiyns. The municipal tariff per cubic meter (1,000 liters) is set at 8 soms in Chui region, 15 soms — in Jalal-Abad, but in some areas (Uzgen) it reaches 39 soms. We buy 0.5 liters of bottled water for 15 soms, but we do not pay the real price for the water flowing from the tap,» Akylbek Japarov added.
