Doctors of the Center for Maternal and Child Welfare and the City Children’s Hospital were detained. Bermet Baryktabasova, head of the Medical Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan, confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.
According to her, presumably, the reason for the detention was the death of a child in November at the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare.
«The child was first admitted to the City Clinical Children’s Emergency Hospital with complaints of abdominal pain. «Acute abdomen» is a complex of different symptoms. It can be appendicitis, and volvulus, and intestinal obstruction, some congenital features, renal colic, and numerous other causes. In general, doctors have to differentiate. It is complex and difficult, especially in children. For differential diagnosis, there are many methods, including laboratory ones, with diagnostic equipment. Doctors must first of all determine the diagnosis in order to prescribe the correct treatment. During the examination, it was found out that the child had elevated blood sugar level. Not to critical figures, but increased, which caused concern for surgeons. Colleagues played it safe, did not even perform a diagnostic operation. It is dangerous to load the body with aggressive intervention when the sugar level is high. Since there was an unclear picture even for the experienced hospital, the doctors decided to transfer the child to the tertiary level — the National Center for Maternal and Childhood Welfare, where the possibilities of examination are wider. But the child died. Autopsy showed that the child had peritonitis and intestinal obstruction,» she said.
Bermet Baryktabasova added that each fatal case is carefully examined by commissions. «Every minute, step by step from the moment of admission, the medical history, the collected anamnesis is studied. It is very difficult to say something now, the results of the clinical analysis, examination are unknown to us. This is a tragedy that the child died, but this should not affect the objective clinical picture: could the doctors do something else or not,» she added.
