The Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic Tilek Tekebaev signed a contract with the Vice President of the International Operations Department of IWATA CHIZAKI INC. Takeshi Kawai on the project «Protection of Bishkek — Osh road from snow drifts» in Tokyo (Japan). The Ministry of Transport and Communications reported.
The ministry notes that snow drifts are typical for the pass sections of roads in Kyrgyzstan. To ensure the safety and continuity of traffic movement, the Government of Japan provided Kyrgyzstan with gratuitous assistance (grant) in the amount of 1,033 billion Japanese yen ($7.7 million).
The purpose of the project is the construction of two facilities that will protect the road section from snow drifts. The total length of snow protection fences will be 4,512 meters. They will be built on Too-Ashuu (2,008 meters) and Ala-Bel (2,504 meters) passes. The height of the fences will be 3-4 meters.
Start of the construction work under the project is scheduled for 2023. Construction of the facilities is planned to be completed by the end of 2027.
