The Bishkek City Court considered a measure of restraint against politicians and activists in the case on attempted seizure of power by force (Kempir-Abad case).

Lawyers of ex-deputy of Parliament Asiya Sasykbayeva asked to place her client under house arrest. They motivated this by the fact that no investigative actions were conducted with her participation. In addition, according to Rabiga Sadykova, her client does not intend to flee.

«She is 71 years old. She does not intend to flee anywhere, on the contrary, she will prove her innocence,» Rabiga Sadykova said.

Asiya Sasykbayeva herself stated that she was given the opportunity to express her opinion under every government.

«I was given the opportunity to speak under Askar Akayev, under Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Almazbek Atambayev. It was difficult under Bakiyev, but there was even an opportunity to enter into controversy. There was even an open round table. It is strange that I am sitting here when young people are in power. We said: «Let the young come to power.» So the young people came and imprisoned about 30 people,» Asiya Sasykbayeva said.

The defendant added that a video appeared on the Internet, in which she paraphrased the words of the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev. But her words were changed in the titles.

Leaving the deliberation room, the judges Almaz Karabekov, Zaurbek Dzhunusov and Nazgul Iliyazova read out the ruling, according to which the decision of the first instance was upheld.

The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.

Mass arrests began on October 23. Authorities placed 26 people in jail on charges of preparing for riots.

A number of international human rights organizations such as the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now and others issued a statement calling for the immediate release of politicians and activists arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
