Wheat and beet yields have increased this year in Kyrgyzstan thanks to farmers’ access to quality seeds. The Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov announced at a press conference in Bishkek.
«If last year we 40 percent provided ourselves with bread and bakery products, replacing the rest with imports, by the end of this year, the indicators increased to 72 percent. In terms of sugar, we provided ourselves with about 40 percent last year, this year the figures have increased to 60 percent,» he said.
At the same time, according to the minister, the areas of wheat and sugar beets have decreased, but thanks to high-quality seeds supplied to the republic from Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, it was possible to harvest a larger crop from smaller areas.
He stressed that work on updating the seed fund continues.
