More than 400 schools and 100 libraries in Kyrgyzstan to get children's books

More than 400 schools and 100 libraries in Kyrgyzstan will receive children’s books in Kyrgyz and Russian. Press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reported.

According to it, the Minister of Education and Science Ulanbek Mambetakunov, together with U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Sonata Coulter and representatives of Mercy Corps in Kyrgyzstan, discussed the program of work for 2023, including within the framework of the McGovern-Dole Program.

Sonata Coulter donated books through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program.

Ulanbek Mambetakunov thanked for the support of the education sector and noted that the country’s leadership pays great attention to the development of children and youth. «All-round student progress is important to us. Books will enrich the inner world, the spiritual culture of children. And school feeding programs matter for the country’s long-term development,» he said.

Children in remote regions will receive 272,000 children’s books (72 titles). Participating schools and libraries will receive 546 books in Kyrgyz and Russian languages. These are new and adapted works created as part of «Okuu Keremet!», supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), by Kyrgyz authors and artists.
