This year, Kyrgyzstan, as the chair country, continued to actively develop the international track of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and expand trade relations with long-term partners. The President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said, speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in an expanded format.

He named the most significant events that took place in 2021-2022:

  • Protocol leading to the formation of a free trade zone with Iran came into force;
  • Negotiation process with Indonesia has begun to conclude an agreement on a free trade area;
  • Initiative to start negotiations with the United Arab Emirates on the establishment of a free trade zone was supported;
  • The first package of measures on cooperation between member states within the framework of the climate agenda was adopted;
  • Decision was made to launch a pilot project to introduce a traceability mechanism for goods imported into the customs territory of the Union;
  • Work has been done to liberalize the services market.

«I am very pleased that the geography of interest in the activities of our Union is expanding. I regard this as a clear indicator of the recognition of the EAEU as a dynamically developing organization in the global economic architecture. In the context of the shift of the global pole of financial and economic concentration to Asia, we should continue to give priority to this particular region. It is gratifying that today we will approve the main directions of the international activities of the EAEU for 2023, which reflect the key vectors and practical priorities of the international activities of the Union in the coming year,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He also spoke on the climate agenda within the EAEU, saying that it was planned to open a bank of climate technologies and digital initiatives. There are also plans to develop national standards in the field of low-carbon technologies.
