Representatives of the media sector and civil society agreed to sign a memorandum based on the results of the round table «Interaction between the media and the civil sector of Kyrgyzstan.»
It says that the parties are joining forces to counteract the negative trend of restricting freedom of speech and violating the rights of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Journalists and NGOs intend to establish partnership to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens.
The memorandum specifies that the parties will exchange information, hold consultations, plan joint events, develop and implement projects and create expert platforms for the exchange of views.
The memorandum stipulates that the signatories intend to maintain and promote norms that contribute to freedom of speech and pluralism of opinions in the legislative and regulatory spheres, realization of citizens’ rights, transparency and accountability of state and municipal bodies.
The participants of the memorandum stress that this is a basic document, it will be supplemented with specific proposals in the process.
