At least 12,039 people are living with HIV in Kyrgyzstan. The Republican AIDS Center reported.

The center’s statistics show a steady increase in sexual transmission of HIV in the country, from 63 percent in 2017 to 86.7 percent in 2022.

«In recent years, we have seen a distinct increase in sexual transmission. 40 percent of HIV infection cases are detected at a late stage, when the patient develops severe immunodeficiency, and medical care does not always bring a quick positive effect. Continuous and regular testing for HIV can be not only an effective way of prevention, but also a way to detect the disease at an early stage and prescribe the necessary treatment in a timely manner,» said Umutkan Chokmorova, Director of the Republican AIDS Center.

December 1 is the World AIDS Day. This year it is marked under the motto «Time for equality!».
