Kyrgyzstan will host a 16-day campaign against gender-based violence under the motto «Korkpo! Toktot! Zhasha!» Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
Launch of the campaign was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov at a meeting of the National Council for Gender Development.
«The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign kicks off worldwide on November 25. This global initiative, as well as the agenda it carries — the fight against gender-based violence — is universally supported by the state. In our country, with the support of UN agencies, development partners, civil society, the campaign will be held under the motto «Korkpo! Toktot! Zhasha!» he said.
The main goals of the campaign are to increase society’s intolerance towards domestic and gender-based violence, raise public awareness through measures to prevent and eliminate violence against women and children, inform and draw public attention to this problem.
«Not a single state in the world can dynamically develop if the potential of half of its population is not used, and women’s rights are violated. The Kyrgyz Republic is currently working hard to create a comprehensive legal and regulatory framework for the protection of women. I would like to emphasize that the effective implementation of the anti-violence policy depends on the coordinated work of all state bodies. We all must take an active part in this,» said Edil Baisalov.
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and December 10 is the International Human Rights Day.
