Uzbekistan cuts gas exports

Uzbekistan almost completely stopped gas exports last week. The Uzbek media report.

«As for the figures, if according to daily estimates it was planned to export 10 million cubic meters of gas, then the current export does not reach even 1 million cubic meters,» the Deputy Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khodjaev said.

Gas is supplied to the south of Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan. Alexander Grebenyuk, Deputy General Director for Production at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC, told 24.kg news agency that in the last autumn-winter period, after a drop in air temperature, there was a sharp drop in gas pressure in Khodjaobad — Osh and Ursatyevskaya — Fergana main gas pipelines in the southern regions of the country.

This problem arises every year with an increase in gas consumption and a lack of resources in the fields of Uzbekistan.

«The situation with gas supplies is monitored around the clock. In order to avoid emergency situations on gas pipelines, as well as taking into account the priorities of gas supply to the largest consumer in the south of the republic — consumers of Osh city (budget-funded organizations, apartment buildings), the Oshgas branch will be forced to limit gas supply to private sector consumers during peak load hours, given their ability to use an alternative type of fuel,» Alexander Grebenyuk told.

He said that work was underway with an external supplier Gazprom Export LLC and Uzbek colleagues to ensure the stability of gas supplies.
