Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell discussed signing of a new cooperation agreement. Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reports.
The parties considered topical issues on the bilateral agenda aimed at further expanding partnership and cooperation, as well as signing the relevant framework agreement.
An agreement was reached to continue work on building up cooperation in order to increase the level of cooperation in trade, green economy, digitalization, migration, education and innovation.
Measures to facilitate the employment of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in the EU countries, as well as issues of visa regime facilitation were discussed.
«The parties welcomed the progressive development of Kyrgyz-European relations and compared notes on the organization of mutual visits. The heads of the foreign ministries also exchanged views on the international and regional agenda, including security issues,» the statement says.
Negotiations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU on a new agreement began in 2017. In July 2019, the parties initialed a new document. It is planned to replace the current partnership and cooperation agreement that entered into force in 1999. It is expected that the document will pay attention to political cooperation, trade and investment relations, economic cooperation in support of sustainable development and other aspects of bilateral relations.
