Kempir-Abad: Another rally held in Uzgen district

A rally against transfer of Kempir-Abad reservoir to Uzbekistan took place in Uzgen district.

More than 50 people marched on foot from Kurshab village to Uzgen.

The protesters were shouting: «Kempir-Abad is ours», «Let Kempir-Abad remain our property».

One of the posters of the protesters said: «We will not give up Kempir-Abad», «Kempir-Abad is a Kyrgyz land».

On October 10, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, told the deputies that in total, more than 19,000 hectares of land remain for Kyrgyzstan, and 4,485 hectares for Uzbekistan — the territory of the Kempir-Abad reservoir, but two countries will jointly manage it.

In 1973, Uzbekistan provided land compensation — 4,100 hectares were transferred to Kyrgyzstan.

Water from Zhazy, Kurshab and Kara-Darya rivers flows into Kempir-Abad. The reservoir belongs to Kyrgyzstan. Its area is 4,400 hectares. The maximum filling volume is 1.9 cubic kilometers. Once it was leased to Uzbekistan.
