Kurultai on Kempir-Abad reservoir issue is held in Uzgen district of Kyrgyzstan. According to some reports, more than 200 people gathered.

One of the delegates stated that the reservoir should not be transferred to Uzbekistan.

«As a concerned citizen, I am against the transfer of the reservoir to Uzbekistan. This is the property of our state. During the Soviet Union, an agreement was signed stating that a factory, plant or reservoirs built on the territory of a particular state would become the property of that country. Accordingly, this reservoir is ours,» the delegate said.

Earlier, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, told deputies that in total more than 19,000 hectares of land remain the property of Kyrgyzstan, and 4,485 hectares are transferred to Uzbekistan — the water area of the Kempir-Abad reservoir, but two countries will jointly manage it.

Kempir-Abad reservoir (it is called Andijan in Uzbekistan) is located at the junction of Osh and Jalal-Abad regions of Kyrgyzstan and Andijan region of Uzbekistan. It was built in 1983 on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In 1973, Uzbekistan provided land compensation — 4,100 hectares were transferred to Kyrgyzstan.

Water from Tar, Kara-Kuldzha and Kara-Darya rivers flows into Kempir-Abad. The reservoir belongs to Kyrgyzstan. Its area is 4,400 hectares. The maximum filling volume is 1.9 cubic kilometers. Once it was leased to Uzbekistan. The waters of Fergana canal flow from Kempir-Abad reservoir and enter the Republic of Uzbekistan through Aravan district.
