The World Bank predicts an increase in the poverty rate in Kyrgyzstan to 25.5 percent by the end of 2022. The World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Economic Update (Fall 2022) says.
As the bank notes, high food prices and job insecurity will continue to be the most significant challenge that impact and deepen poverty in Kyrgyzstan in 2022. That is why the share of the population living on $3.65 a day will grow from 21.8 percent in 2021 to 25.5 percent by the end of 2022.
«Government measures, such as increases in pensions, scaling up and extension of coverage of the social protection program targeted to the poor, will help mitigate the adverse effects of lost labor income and high inflation,» the WB report says.
