OSCE ready to help with equipping police of Kyrgyzstan

Deputy Interior Minister of Kyrgyzstan Oktyabr Urmambetov met with OSCE Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Alexey Rogov, who arrived in Batken region as part of a diplomatic mission. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The parties discussed the process of stabilizing the situation and restoring destroyed houses, infrastructure, military and other facilities. The Deputy Minister noted the tasks assigned to the employees of the internal affairs bodies and the military personnel of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to ensure public security, law and order in the zone of armed conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

The OSCE Ambassador expressed his readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in form of providing police officers and military personnel of the Internal Troops with the necessary equipment, various technical means.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 62 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
