Kyrgyzstan proposes to revise the charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan, Marat Imankulov, stated at a round table.
According to him, the organization does not have mechanisms for settling disputes between its members. At the same time, conflicts occur between the countries. This suggests that it is necessary to revise the rules for participation of countries in the association.
«We are going to raise this issue. It is necessary to introduce a rule so that all problems arising between the CSTO countries are resolved peacefully. If someone hopes to solve problems by force, we suggest to expel them from the organization. Why is it when you become a member of the CSTO and expect protection from an external threat, but you get a conflict with a country within the organization? It is time for our countries to revise some parts of the CSTO charter in order to exclude from its composition such parts when the participants would use threats against each other,» Marat Imankulov said.
He once again voiced the position of Kyrgyzstan on resolving border issues: all disputes should be resolved only by peaceful means during negotiations.
«If someone hopes that, under the pressure of force or aggression, will force us to cede, this will never happen. We will not give in, but we are committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes. Tajikistan is not a hostile country to us, but a friendly one. We have lived side by side for centuries. The Tajik people have nothing to do with it. They are hostages of the situation and the ongoing policy, hostages of a bunch of politicians. Until this policy is reconsidered in relation to Kyrgyzstan, nothing good will happen, such conflicts will repeat,» Marat Imankulov concluded.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
