Sadyr Japarov tells Emir of Qatar about Tajikistan's invasion of Kyrgyzstan

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York (USA). Press service of the head of state reported.

The parties discussed topical issues of Kyrgyz-Qatari bilateral relations and prospects for their development in all areas of mutual interest. Sadyr Japarov noted the actively developing bilateral cooperation with the State of Qatar and openness to the implementation of joint projects. He noted with satisfaction the priority areas and the willingness of the Kyrgyz side to deepen joint cooperation.

During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on armed aggression at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.

The President stressed that the Tajik side brought its troops to the Kyrgyz border in advance and attacked border, civilian facilities and settlements on Kyrgyz territory using its armed forces and heavy military equipment. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the fighting took place on Kyrgyz territory.

Sadyr Japarov noted that the situation created by the Tajik side led to irreparable losses.

In turn, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed readiness to provide assistance to Kyrgyzstan in the light of recent events, if necessary. He expressed the readiness of the Qatari side to build up fruitful cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. In addition, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani invited Sadyr Japarov to pay an official visit to Qatar.

The President of Kyrgyzstan spoke at the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. He expressed the country’s position on the armed conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
