President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York (USA). Press service of the head of state reported.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects of the Kyrgyz-Turkish bilateral and multilateral cooperation and other topical issues of interaction. In addition, they exchanged views in connection with the recent tragic events on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
Sadyr Japarov stressed that the Tajik side had brought its troops to the Kyrgyz border in advance.
Using its armed forces and heavy military equipment, Tajikistan attacked border and civilian facilities, settlements on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, he stressed that the fighting took place on Kyrgyz territory.
"Sadyr Japarov focused on the fact that the situation created by the Tajik side led to irreparable casualties among the civilian population, losses of military personnel, and serious damage to military and civilian infrastructure. Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed deep condolences to Sadyr Japarov in connection with the casualties and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The leaders of the countries agreed to continue active cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
