Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan starts collecting facts of human rights violations

The Office of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan has begun collecting all cases of human rights violations in connection with the armed attack of Tajikistan on Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ombudsman reported.

The Ombudsman constantly monitors the protection of legitimate interests of the victims, monitors the observance of the rights and freedoms of civilians subjected to forced relocation. Ombudsman’s deputy Albert Kolopov, together with three employees of the central office, were seconded to Osh region on September 19 to monitor and assess the living conditions of residents evacuated from the territory of the armed attack. In the coming days, they will go to Batken region and continue working with the affected population.

«We ask all people subjected to forced relocation, evacuation, as well as non-governmental organizations, volunteers and journalists, to contact the Office of the Ombudsman around the clock for legal advice on each case of human rights violations or support in restoring violated rights at the hotline 115 (toll-free) or WhatsApp +996555001609,» the statement says.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
