Situation in Batken region and Chon-Alai relatively stable

Situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Chon-Alai district of Osh region and Batken region is relatively stable, but with elements of tension. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The night of September 21 passed quietly, without incidents.

 Since September 20, work has been carried out on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border to detect, clear and neutralize border areas from unexploded shells, mines, ammunition and other explosives.

The units of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, deployed on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, are still on combat alert.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
