Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev had a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Executive Committee — CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev. Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry reports.
The parties discussed the current situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
The Kyrgyz side provided up-to-date information on the current state of affairs. In addition, the country’s commitment to de-escalation and the unchanging position on resolving the situation exclusively through political and diplomatic means were emphasized.
Sergei Lebedev noted that the ongoing events on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border are of serious concern. He also said that he would hold consultations with the CIS structures on this issue.
«Sergei Lebedev expressed sincere words of condolences in connection with the death of military personnel and civilians in Kyrgyzstan, and also expressed the hope that, through joint efforts, solutions would be found to resolve the conflict as soon as possible,» the statement says.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 122 victims, 24 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon agreed to ceasefire. But, according to the latest data from the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, the Tajik side violated the agreements again.
