Sadyr Japarov to hold meeting on situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov will hold an emergency meeting on the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Speaker of the Parliament Talant Mamytov announced, speaking to the protesters near the building of the Parliament.

According to him, the president will arrive from Samarkand today at 5 p.m.

The deputies held an extraordinary meeting, following which they decided to create two headquarters — in the cities of Bishkek and Osh. They intend to collect humanitarian aid for the residents of Batken, as well as to assist in the evacuation of civilians from the villages where hostilities are taking place.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, at about 6 a.m. the Tajik side started firing at the border detachments and positions of the Kyrgyz side. Later, the Tajik side began mortar shelling of border outposts and border villages in Leilek and Batken districts. At least 42 people were wounded. Shooting continues for the third day. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts left their homes.

A rally has been held near the parliament building in Bishkek. The participants demand deputies’ reaction to the situation in Batken. Speaker Talant Mamytov held met with them.
