Kyrgyzstan negotiates with FBI on cooperation with USA in criminal matters

To date, Kyrgyzstan has agreements with 18 countries on the extradition of its citizens convicted on their territory. Deputy Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan, Turusbek Ishenaliev, informed deputies about this at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, judicial, legal issues and regulations.

Agreements have been signed with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, China, India, Mongolia, Czech Republic, Iran, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

«In addition, a draft memorandum of understanding is currently being negotiated with the UAE prosecutors to expand cooperation. We are negotiating with the U.S. FBI. We also discuss the possibility of expanding partnership with China. Negotiations are also underway with Bulgaria, Kuwait, Great Britain and Northern Ireland,» Turusbek Ishenaliev told.

According to Asilbek Akmatov, head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office, about 100 Kyrgyzstanis who are on the criminal wanted list are extradited from these states to their homeland every year.

«Separate reporting is being done on convicts. At least 68 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were extradited last year,» he added.
