Security services of Russia believe that the terrorist organization Katibat Tawhid wal-Jihad is involved in organizing a terrorist attack in the St. Petersburg metro in April 2017, which killed 15 people and injured about 100 more. Russian investigators called Sirojiddin Mukhtarov the mastermind behind the attack.

According to the State Committee for National Security, Sirojiddin Mukhtarov participated in organizing the terrorist attack at the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan in August 2016.
