Ex-vice mayor of Bishkek Azat Uzakov placed under house arrest

Former vice mayor of Bishkek, Azat Uzakov, was placed under house arrest. Own sources informed 24.kg news agency.

The decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Court of the capital.

«Azat Uzakov was previously charged with corruption, but later the charge was changed to abuse of official position. The criminal investigation has been completed. The Pervomaisky District Court will consider the merits of the case,» the sources said.

Azat Uzakov was detained on February 18. According to the investigators, while working as the head of the Construction, Transport and Communications Department of the Government’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, he organized a corruption scheme to lobby the interests of a separate company. When financing the construction of a secondary school in Kosh-Korgon village in Chui region, Azat Uzakov entered into an agreement with employees of the State Construction Committee and the Chui Capital Construction Department. He repeatedly promoted the interests of G.P.S. LLC. The requirements of the tender legislation, building codes and regulations were violated, as a result, the facility was put into operation fictitiously. In fact, the construction of the school is not completed.
