Former deputy chairman of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan, Raiymbek Matraimov, will finance construction of a building for the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan. He was accused of corruption and found guilty by the court.
According to social media posts, the ex-customs officer took part in laying a capsule for the new facility, which is located next to the mosque on Zhibek Zholu Avenue in Bishkek, on August 30.
Mufti Zamir Rakiev, deputy Shailoobek Atazov, deputy head of Sverdlovsky district, are next to the former official, who was found guilty of corruption, on the photos from the event. Scientists, clergymen, students and activists also attended the capsule-laying ceremony.
In addition to the mufti’s office, the building will have offices for the Ulema Council, meeting rooms, study halls and libraries.
After the change of power in October 2020, the State Committee for National Security opened a criminal case on the fact of corruption at customs. Raiymbek Matraimov was detained at a gas station near the building of the department.
On the same day, Raiymbek Matraimov transferred 80 million soms to the budget. He was handed a notice of committing a crime, and then the court released him on his own recognizance not to leave city.
The total damage caused by Raiymbek Matraimov in one criminal case amounted to 2 billion soms. He paid them for two months, most of the amount he handed over in form of property — a building and apartments, pleading guilty to corruption. The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek found him guilty and fined 260,000 soms.
