Former president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the opening ceremony of the largest mosque in Central Asia in Nur-Sultan city.

«After gaining independence, we are opening mosques in all regions of the republic. May Allah hear all the prayers that are said in these mosques. The day before the termination of my powers in March 2019, I laid the first brick for the mosque. The current president of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was with me,» he said.

The mosque in Nur-Sultan will become the largest in Kazakhstan and the region as a whole. The height of its main dome is almost 90 meters, minarets — 130 meters. At least 235,000 people can attend the mosque at once — it is one of the ten largest in the world in terms of capacity.

Construction of the mosque began in 2019 at the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
