Kyrgyzstani Almaz Smanbekov lost to his opponent in the final and brought the first medal to the team of Kyrgyzstan. He won a silver medal in wrestling at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
He competed at the freestyle wrestling tournament in the weight category up to 57 kilograms, starting from the 1/8 of the final stage and scoring three victories in a row over opponents from Azerbaijan, Senegal and Tajikistan.
However, in the final, Almaz Smanbekov lost to a wrestler from Uzbekistan with a score 0-10.
The Islamic Solidarity Games are held for the fifth time. In 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were postponed to August 2022.
