The total land area occupied by landfills is about 616 hectares. The Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Dinara Kutmanova told at a press conference.

According to her, the inventory has shown that there are 369 landfills in Kyrgyzstan. They are located mainly on agricultural lands (506 hectares) and lands of settlements (79 hectares).

«Only 61 out of 369 available solid waste disposal sites are authorized. At the same time, many landfills that are authorized and have relevant title documents have not been transformed from one category of land to another. Wind currents carry waste around the surroundings, polluting the air, soil layer and surface watercourses. Pollution and intoxication of the atmospheric air with products of combustion, smoldering, decay and decomposition of waste occurs as a result,» Dinara Kutmanova told.
