Parliament deputy Aigul Aidarova initiated an increase in spending on school meals. The bill passed public discussion and was submitted to the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan for consideration.
According to the Law on Organization of Meals for Students of General Educational Institutions, the Cabinet determines the amount for food per pupil in the amount of only 7 soms, the author of the bill says.
«This rate has not been changed for many years, and students of 1-4 grades do not get proper nutritious meals, which affects their health and academic performance. Considerable time has passed, during this period the cost of food has increased several times. It is necessary to revise the amount, raising it to at least 20 soms. Understanding the difficult economic situation in the country, we should first of all take care of healthy gene pool,» Aigul Aidarova said.
She proposed to fix a norm: the amount allocated for meals per pupil should be set taking inflation into account.
Earlier it was reported that 1,735 schools in Kyrgyzstan provide their students with hot meals.
