Trial of a criminal case on October 2020 riots continues in the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.
Farid Niyazov, ex-chief of staff the President, and ex-president Almazbek Atambayev were brought to the hearing under escort. The latter was taken out of the courtroom for violation of order.
Prosecutors asked for a guilty verdict for all the accused and depriving them of freedom for different terms.
Leaving the deliberations room, Judge Ubaidulla Satimkulov read out the verdict, according to which all the accused were acquitted due to the absence of corpus delicti.
Farid Niyazov, ex-chief of staff of the President, was released from custody in the courtroom.
The court recognized the right to rehabilitation for the acquitted.
Rallies were held in Bishkek on October 5-6, 2020 against falsification of the results of the parliamentary elections. Then the riots began. On October 6, under pressure from the public, the Central Election Commission was forced to annul the election results. Several convicted politicians were released from prison colonies.
On October 9, Almazbek Atambayev, his supporters, Omurbek Babanov and others announced another rally. A brawl broke out on the square between supporters of Sadyr Japarov and the former head of state.
Later, the State Committee for National Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained many of them, including Almazbek Atambayev, an activist Temirlan Sultanbekov, Farid Niyazov, Kanat Sagymbaev, Kursan Asanov. Some of them are still in custody. Others are under house arrest.
