Specialists of the Republican Center for Health Promotion and Mass Communication of Kyrgyzstan conducted epidemiological surveillance of obesity among the country’s children.
The experts covered 150 schools and about 7,600 families. Anthropometric measurements were carried out in almost 8,000 children aged from 6 to 9.
The medical findings are disappointing. Every tenth child of primary school age is overweight or obese.
These disorders are more common in boys than in girls.
There are more overweight or obese children in cities than in small towns and rural areas.
Only 31 percent of children consume vegetables daily, and fresh fruit — only 18 percent.
Nearly one in three children consume sugar-sweetened soft drinks at least one to three times a week. Approximately every second child spends at least two hours a day watching TV or using mobile devices.
