Shadrinsk city located in Kurgan Oblast of Russia and Kyzyl-Kiya city in Batken region of Kyrgyzstan have become sister cities. An agreement on the establishment of sister city relations was signed on the sidelines of the IX Interregional Russian-Kyrgyz Conference, which took place in Yekaterinburg.
The document was signed by the head of Shadrinsk Anton Mokan and the mayor of Kyzyl-Kiya Asilbek Maatkalykov.
Kyzyl-Kiya is a city of regional subordination in Batken region, until 1990 — a city of regional subordination in Osh region. It was founded in 1898 during the development of a coal seam. It was a settlement that grew rapidly and received the status of a city in 1938. In terms of the number of workers, Kyzyl-Kiya was second only to the capital and Osh city in the republic.
