Court acquits ex-head of Customs Service Adamkul Zhunusov

Former head of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan Adamkul Zhunusov is fully acquitted. Lawyer Mairambek Zhumabekov told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the decision was made by the Bishkek City Court.

«The rest of the defendants were fined 2 million soms. According to the investigation, it was Nurbek Aibashev who organized corruption schemes. We do not agree with the court verdict and will appeal it to a higher court,» Mairambek Zhumabekov said.

A scandal erupted at Severnaya customs in 2018. At the end of May, employees of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes detained former chief Nurbek Aibashev. He was charged with abuse of official position.

According to investigators, with the assistance of Nurbek Aibashev and other customs officials, companies evaded duties and other necessary payments.

At least 15 people are involved in the case. They were charged with negligence and corruption.
